About Me

I used to write a travel blog. I like having my feet up on the dashboard. I like getting lost. I always talk to strangers. I love having dirty feet.

While travelling Australia and New Zealand I had a feeling something wasn’t right, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I was unwell in a rather nondescript way and had reams of inconclusive blood test results to show that.
Eventually I came back to the UK, moved to Scotland to live with my partner (now fiancee) Kirsty and became increasingly happy, but also increasingly more ill.

On the 3rd March 2014 I was admitted to hospital and a few days later I was paralysed from the chest down. A few weeks after that I was diagnosed with Neuromyelitis Optica and began a journey somewhere, I have no idea where I’ll end up yet.

This blog has and will continue to document what happens (usually quite long after it has happened as it takes me a while to process things into words).

  1. Hi. My apologies for not stopping by sooner. Hectic and stressful few weeks round my place.

I read your posts and lordy can I relate! Being chronically ill is so much fun…not.

Thanks for following my blog. I look forward to reading more from you. You’re nearly half my age but have had more adventured than I ever will. Try to remember those when next your body decides to play crazy on you, lol. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Hectic and stressful weeks are commonplace, just when you don’t need them! The dust is just settling here after a house move and slowly beginning to feel the calm.

Body has been playing crazy today and you’re right, it’s good to remember the adventures I’ve had.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. So many reactions to your blog…
Every day a different challenge yet also some kind of opportunity… Even if that is just working out how to turn around without testing gravity!
Life can be crap. Life can be good. Often our choice of perspective. Which can be really difficult when it’s a bad day.
Life is what it is. So many clichรฉs and what works now probably won’t in a few hours.
    So what?
All I have is this moment… Whatever it is!
I’ll live it, take it, manage it… My way… Just because I can.
As you do with yours…. And everyone else with theirs.
Wish you well with the good ones and strength for the not so good ones. It’s a roller coaster ride! And who knows what is in the next moment? Hope it’s good for you!… Thanks for visiting, liking and following. See you in cyberspace! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Helen, I came across with you posting a comment on my blog..and I know only people who have experienced or rather been with a loved once understand such challenges. I would love to follow you and maybe we can share on commonalities. โค from India

    • It’s always good to keep contact with people who experience similar challenges, wherever you are in the world! Thank you for coming to read my blog ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Thank you for dropping by my blog. I enjoy your writing style: it is passionate yet clear. But it is your great courage and commitment to being totally honest in your writing in the face of so many challenges that I admire most. Keep it up ๐Ÿ™‚
